Chapter 6

The next two days flew by as every resident on the island rallied together to create a solid plan. Time was limited and the knowledge they were closer to Christmas with every day gave them all the push to continue. Jules was running on adrenaline and caffeine, drinking cup after cup of coffee as he worked alongside his new coworkers—men and women quickly becoming friends.

Their passion impressed Jules. Once they’d made the decision to approach Santa about delivering the toys of Snow Hope on Christmas Eve, there was no stopping them. With only one mission in mind, the island ran like a well-oiled machine. Nobody had time for mistakes or doubts. It was all or nothing.

When the moment finally arrived to send the proposal to Santa, the entire crew crowded into Felix’s small office, hovering around him as he uploaded their ideas. Everyone collectively held their breath as they watched Felix hit SEND.

Silence filled the room until Eve spoke. “Cocoa for everyone,” she announced and scurried out of the office. It didn’t surprise Jules to see Zuzu trail after her, offering to help, and he wondered if either had broached the idea of dating.

Felix let out a shaky breath and ran his fingers through his hair. He stared up at Jules, standing beside his chair. “My heart is pounding so hard,” he admitted with a chuckle.

“Mine, too.”

Charlie murmured his agreement before taking his leave, gesturing for the others to follow him. “Keep us posted, boss,” he called over his shoulder.

“Will do,” Felix replied.

Jules moved to close the door, but glanced out, watching everyone milling around with smiles on their faces. They had all worked so hard. Even those who normally didn’t deal with toys had put aside their usual duties to jump in and work toward the common goal. He closed the door and turned to Felix, leaning back in his chair, eyes closed.

“Hey,” he whispered and bit back a laugh when Felix jolted, eyes flying open.

“Shit, did I just fall asleep? In my office?” He looked alarmed.

Jules slid his hip onto the corner of the desk, his gaze on Felix’s eyes. “You’ve had what? Like two hours of sleep in the last few days?”

“Something like that, yeah.”

“Nobody will be upset if you take the rest of the afternoon off and go home. We need our boss at his best when Santa approves this plan and we have to put it into action.”

Felix’s eyes rounded and he sucked in his breath. “God, I hope he goes for it.”

Jules scooted a few inches closer and took Felix’s hand in both of his. And God, it felt so right. “All we can do is wait and hope. Why don’t you go home? Seriously, shipments are taken care of, the proposal’s been sent, and everyone knows you’ve worked your ass off.”

Felix rose, standing between Jules’s legs and sliding his arms around his waist.

Jules’s eyes widened and he gave the man a big smile. “Why, Mr. Winterson! In the office? This could put you on the ‘Naughty’ list.
